Third grade teachers are saying that their kids are really lacking in dictionary and glossary skills now that they are no longer using basal readers to teach reading. Those books used to have glossaries where students would practice looking up words. Trade books they use now don't have glossaries so students lack the practice. They don't have classroom sets of dictionaries but even when they look up the words in elementary level dictionaries, often the words they want aren't even in there. The teachers are wondering if there's some sort of dictionary software where they could print up their own customized dictionary. It would allow teachers to select the words they wanted and then print them up in a booklet form. Does such a thing exist? Anything online you could recommend?
