I was taught that the ISBN number was unique to the type of book...i.e. paperback, trade, library bound, etc. Is this correct? I've been entering a large book order by hand (the previous librarian was a math teacher with NO library experience, who placed a large order of books and didn't request the free MARC records.) Which ISBN do I use for the Permabound books? Do they have a unique ISBN? I don't want to type in EVERYTHING at this point, but also don't want to put in inaccurate information. I was told by the Follett salesman that if MARC records were added later with those 3 pieces of information already entered, their new product could fill in the rest. Any ideas or help? Also, our students are VERY hard on our books and we have several that are in bad shape (Permabound and Follett included.) Has anyone had experience returning books to them or asking for replacements? TIA. I've learned tons lurking for the past few years.
