Movie for Black Hist. Month!

For a great movie with a different slant try Finding Buck McHenry.
It was a Showtime movie and available in video stores.  Stars Ossie
Davis and Rubie Dee and some great kids.
        It's about 3 kids, with problems, who form a baseball team.
The kids are 12.  They get their black custodian to coach.  One of
the kids believes the custodian is Buck McHenry, a player from
the Negro Leagues.  Is he?  This is one part of the story.
There's a lot about the old leagues, the fine players,
the prejudice of the era, the indignities suffered by the Black
players, and the film is about the kids overcoming challenges.
        It is based on Alfred Slote's book of the same name.  He
co-wrote the script, which differs from the book.  Slote's also
written about 20 books on young kids and ball games and a few
sci fi books for the 5th-9th grade crowd.
        He lives in Ann Arbor and sets stories in Arborville..except for those
in space.
        Should be good discussion after the film.
