I was not going to post a HIT, but I have been asked to, so here goes. This
is a compilation of what many people wrote. Thanks to all who replied. The
original question was:

Hello all. I rarely post to this group, although I read rather frequently,
because I am not, yet, a LMS. I am a special education teacher, and I am at
my wit's end/burnt out/frazzled. (19 years!) But I have barely started work
on my MLS and don't have enough credit hours to get hired as a Library Media
Specialist. It will be another year, if I can continue to take classes and
not have to drop out because the demands of the job are so great.

Let me come to the point. I am considering finding another job for a year
or so until I can get the hours to apply for a LMS job. I would like to
find something that is in a related field, but I am not sure how to go about
looking. I know there are publishers and vendors out there, software
companies in the library field. Somewhere in there I would think could be
some job possibilities. What other related things come to mind? What would
I look under and how should I search? I am coming to you because you are an
incredible group. I know you will have ideas and resources that I would
never have thought of. St. Louis is home if that matters.

HITS
1. Check private schools.

2. Go ahead and put out feelers for the public school districts because
there is desperate need and I could get hired even with only a few hours.

3. Check out county/public library systems and work for a year, thus
gaining library experience as well as credit hours.

4. Some school districts have central processing areas that do all the
processing for the libraries.

5. Work as a library aide in the public school until I get enough hours.

6. Check out the university library system for jobs.

7. Textbook companies are often looking for educators.

8. Check out internet job listings at universities with Library &
Information Science schools, and at http://www.ala.org.

9. MOST OF ALL: Don't try to use the LMC as an escape from a classroom you
are unhappy in. The stresses are just as bad, and you are underappreciated
to boot!! (This sage piece of advice was well offered and well taken.!)

Thanks to all,
