GEN: Latest virus hoax: Virtual Card Virus Hoax

Dear LM_NET Friends,

You may be receiving an alarming virus alert from someone you know,
because an old virus hoax is recirculating, called: Virtual Card Virus.

The real damage that this does is to wast the time of the people who have
to deal with the message (it asks the recipient to "SEND THIS TO EVERYONE
ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!"). It clogs the Internet with wasted messaging, and
makes anyone who forwards it look like an absolute rookie.

LM_NET does not want "virus alerts" to be posted before they are cleared
with the owners. We have someone who takes care of us in that regard. As a
member of the Hospitality Committee, Madeline Buchanan volunteered to post
to the list any high risk viruses that are included on her daily McAfee
Virus Clinic update.  All of the viruses that she will notify us about are
real viruses, not hoaxes.
