add to the HIT: should we turn computers off daily?

sorry, I overlooked the following response.  I thought it was an interesting
counterpoint to the majority opinion that computers SHOULD  turned off.

Sorry, I don't recall seeing your original posting, but thought I would add
my thoughts.  In truth, I don't think it matters one way or another.  In
September lightning struck near our school. The power surge destroyed seven
computers that were all turned off and connected to surge protectors.  In
our subsequent discussions with the local power company, we were told that
under those circumstances the only thing that might have protected us would
have been costly surge protection on the lines leading into the school.  I
turn my computers off everyday just to clear the cache and "reset" them.
