Mary, I wondered about the same thing last summer as I ordered new equipment. = But it seems only a few companies have curriculum related DVDs out. While = I think you might want to have one low cost DVD available, I would think = it would be better to spend your money on VCR's because that is what you = have to circulate from your library. When I was faced with this question, = I realized I wasn't going to weed out 2,000 videos just because DVDs were = here. And, we are now to the point where most classrooms have a VCR in = our district. It will take a long time (if ever) before each classroom = needs a DVD player. I would imagine your staff would more appreciate the = availability of a VCR now rather than a DVD player they don't have = software for. I don't think VCRs will become quickly obsolete. I ended = up buying one DVD player and it circulates as needed (which isn't a lot!) And a little more food for thought....DVD players are becoming more = common in computers. Perhaps having a DVD player in a few computers would = serve some dual purposes. VCR vs DVD Player? Wondering: I need to purchase 4 new VCRs. However with technology going to DVD, should I purchase VHS VCRs or DVD players? If I purchase DVD players, we have no discs to use. However I hesitate to purchase VCRs if they would quickly be obsolete. Like everyone else, our funds are limited. I think it will probably take 10 years for all VHS to be phased out. Is this logical or do you think it will take over things more quickly? What are your thoughts/opinions? Answer to the list so that we might all participate in the discussion, please. -- Mary Croix Ludwick B.B.
