While I am a very modern, spirited woman who champions the right to vote, own property & make my own decisions, I still enjoy reading stories written decades ago to provide a viewpoint of a woman's perspective at that time (even if she was content with her life and enjoyed sewing). For example, Grace Livingston Hill wrote more than 50 Christian Romance books through the time period of both WW's & the Depression. Reading about how her very conservative characters felt in response to changes around them is intriguing. I have been re-reading the 30 or so copies I kept from my grandmother's collection. As a child, I did not notice they were not totally "PC" but they impacted my development because it was acceptable to be "good". As an adult I am enjoying the descriptions of trying to live through poverty and "make-do". Several teachers during break were discussing how their religious insitutions view women. Even today the differences were so very great and several people felt embarassed defending very strict viewpoints. I am grateful that many viewpoints are available in literature. Diane R.
