TARGET: What are these books?

Could you please help me find the names of these books/stories? One is about
a duck that wants to be a person but has a speech impediment so it comes out
'posson'.  The duck apparently also says pifflewick & pooey quite often. I
think this may have been a children's book around 20 years ago, a mother of
20 year old asked what it was, she used to read it to her daughter. The
other is a request from a reading teacher for a story called possibly, The
Faithful Elephant, based on true accounts of Japanese during WWII killing
animals in the zoos so that if they got bombed, the animals couldn't escape
and harm people. Thank you.
