Thank to all who responded to my questions about Inauguration Day. I
received several responses.
From Britannica.com: "The constitution originally mandated that the oath
of office be taken on March 4 the year following an
election (Washington's was delayed more
than a month because of foul weather). The four-month gap between the
election and inauguration was designed to allow
sufficient time for counting election returns and for an incoming
administration to travel to Washington. But with
improvements in
communications and transportation less time was needed for a
presidential transition, and the passage of the 20th
Amendment in 1933 changed Inauguration Day to its current
date, January 20."

From World Book 2001: "If January 20 is a Sunday, the ceremony may be
held
privately that day and again in public on January 21."

According to the "Dictionary of American History": "The official date
for
the inauguration was first set as March 4 by the 12th amendment of the
Constitution, passed in 1804. The date was changed in 1933 when the
20th
amendment set January 20 as the end of the presidential term, to shorten
the
period between the election of a new president and his inauguration."
Kane's "Facts About the Presidents" says: Only two of the 12 January
inaugurations have fallen on Sunday. Eisenhower, the 34th president,
was
inaugurated on Sunday, January 20, 1957, at a private ceremony, and
again on
Monday, January 21, at a public ceremony. Ronald Reagan was sworn in on

Sunday, January 20, 1985, at a semi-private ceremony, and inaugurated
again
the following day, at a public ceremony. Inauguration day (January 20)
will
fall on Sunday only two times in the next 100 years in 2013 and 2041."

  It's the law--
  changed during Franklin Roosevelt term
when it was decided that waiting until March (the 4th)
  which has been previous law
was too long to implement new administration/policies
  to get out of Depression.

I think that if it falls on Sun,
that he actually takes oath on Sun,
but celebrtion and public ceremonies are on Mon.
