Here is a list of the results e-mailed to me: A "Getting Together" project targeted a 6th grade class and the two librarians shared information on research topics. The public librarians went to the school and shared resources. They followed up with a night at the Public Library and served refreshments. Was very successful Some schools release school kids to go to the public library during the day for booktalks and research. Another library takes the kids to the public library at the end of the year so that the students hear about the summer reading program at the public library. Other libraries visited during National Library Week so that kids could get public library cards and become familiar with the library. Another gives kids a questionnaire with questions that can be answered only at the public library. Kids liked that a lot. We are kicking off a P.A.R.P. program - (Parents as Reading Partners) Children will keep a log that parents sign.....1) Parents are urged to go to the public library with their children to read and select books. 2) the PARP theme this year is READ TO DISCOVER. Each child will receive a manatee beanie baby and the classes are going to research endangered species. The public library helps us supplement our collection for animal research. They also suggested storytellers to kick-off program. But I'm thinking the public library could also sponsor storytellers, puppeteers or whatever performing there, with programs revolving around the same theme. Any kind of reading incentive program is good for coordination with public library. -- Beverly Nelson Media Generalist Spring Grove Public School 113 2nd Ave NW Spring Grove, Minnesota 55974 507-498-3223 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
