I'm with you all the way. I'm also not a prude, but modern culture is totally barraging us with this stuff. My feeling is that I have to find a balance. I've been getting Rolling Stone, because it has great articles and our boys are interested in music, of course. And we're a boarding school, so we meet some needs beyond the curriculum. But we have very young 8th and 9th graders, and I just refuse to display the last two issues. I'm not covering this up either -- when the boys (usually the older ones) ask where it is, I tell them how I feel. Part of the answer is education, and everyone who can should see and/or show the "Killing Me Softly" videos. You can find info about them in the archives. Center for Media Literacy is the group behind these. (I have this material in my files but not right at hand.) But in our situation, we don't have room in the curriculum for this education, so it's really tough. Boys as well as girls need this education. -- Jane Hyde, Librarian 828-684-6232 x121 St. Dunstan Library jhyde@christschool.org Christ School 500 Christ School Rd.
