91X vs 94x-99X

The numbers between 914 and 919 are now strictly for books
that deal with geography and travel, such as Fodor's guides
or some National Geog that are mostly description and
scenery.  Any book that also includes a fair amount of
history should be located in 940-999, even if it also
contain some geography/travel.  This is a change from the
past when books that had some travel/geography were placed
in the 91X's.  We now have the reverse.=20

My library (that I just left) had a 30 year old collection
with  30 year old cataloging.  This year, I totally
recataloged several sections, including the 91Xs, to match
the latest version of Dewey.  Now it's organized and much
easier to browse.

Each time a new Dewey is published there is a section that
shows the changes that have been made since the last
edition.  It's a good idea to read through that section to
see if the changes will have an impact on your collection.
That's why we should keep up with the Dewey's when they come
out.  I'm opening a new library  in the fall and you can
believe that I will be keeping it up to the latest version
of Dewey, as I saw what happens if you don't in my last
school.
