While I don't know anyone who has joined the Marines specifically for =
the music program (known as "The President's Own"), I do know some =
things about basic training.  Yes, it's rough, but if the young man has =
a strong will and knows who he is and doesn't allow anyone to change =
that, he'll make it through basic just fine.  The music program won't =
even be an issue for him until after basic, and probably after MCT =
(combat training, usually done within a month of finishing basic.).  I'm =
sure he'll be fine.  Everyone's experiences are different--my best =
friend thought basic training was the most wonderful thing he could have =
gone through; his bunkmate disagreed strongly.  Your husband's student =
has to go in open-minded and with the idea that nothing, not even the =
Corps, is going to change who he is.
