I have been lurking on the listserv for some time and have occasionally responded to individuals, but Tina's question is one that also concerns me. I am now trying to catch up on reading. While I would love to read all the books before I put them on the shelf, it's not possible. I recently purchased some young adult fiction to encourage the 7th. and 8th. graders to read. I think the themes and stories are great, but how far do I go in placing books on the shelf with questionable language and teenage ideas? What do you all do? I am in a 5-8 middle school and personally think that the books I question would be ok for eighth graders. Have any of you read Jade Green, Stuck in Neutral, Hard Ball by Will Weaver, or Players by Joyce Sweeney? Does anyone have some guidelines or advice?
