Greetings colleagues. On Tuesday Morning, I have to make a presentation to the Board of Trustees which will convince them to pay for the automation of this small library for college bound boys. They see the number of books as dwindling and the use of computer data bases and on-line information soaring, which is true. They predict ultimately a library with very few books here, and don't see the point of spending $10,000 on automating this library. I am one of the few remaining schools with a funky card catalogue, and I am increasingly embarassed about this. We're way ahead of many other private schools in other areas of technology, but not this. Is there anyone out there with a good pithy sentence or two about the value of automating? Or, is there anyone who automated and really didn't think it was worth it? It is my feeling that automation would bring our collection to life! What do you think!?!
