When equipment is returned (anytime) I give it a quick check to make sure it is ready to go out. Before I send stuff out in the fall I give it a thorough cleaning/servicing. For long-term checkouts, that includes a spare bulb. Overheads that are just going out for a day often don't have a spare with them, unless there is a place inside the machine for it. All of my newer machines have such provisions, which is why I send them out first. I think I'll have only one machine left this year that doesn't have a place for a spare bulb inside it. I don't dust equipment when it comes back in the spring, because it will need it again when it goes out in the fall.
