Hi,
I was just about to launch this thread myself. I am about halfway
through the book, which arrived for free from the publisher as a "gift"
to NYC school libraries. I resent the attempt to immediately tie in with
a movie and see this free gift as nothing more that an attempt to drum
up business for the movie.
I gave the book to my daughter and her boyfriend to read (college
studetns who loved Harry Potter last year) and they both enjoyed it but
had real questions about what age group it is aimed at.
I myself am not hating it, but am not really pulled into it either.
I have real questions about the overwhelming preoccupation with weaponry
and violence in the book. To me it reads like a novleization of an
Austin Powers movie. I have not yet decided whether or not to put the
two donated copies in my middle school library. I am sure the boys will
love it. Perhaps it is no worse than goosebumps, etc and gets boys
reading, but I really do resent the hype and the gratuitous violence and
weaponry.
