Good morning LM_NETters! The March 2001 topic for Weed of the Month is: Ecology. Everyone recognizes the ecology as one of the critical issues in the world today, and yet sound ecological practices are not a part of most of our everyday living habits. Students - elementary through high school - are more receptive to the ecology message than any other age group. Don't let your media collection dampen that enthusiasm. A brief explanation of Weed of the Month for new LM_NET members: The SUNLINK Weed of the Month began in September, 1997, as an effort to help provide Florida's School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well as adding quality materials. The project idea and specific suggestions came from media specialists around the world via LM_NET, and SUNLINK's Weed of the Month parallels a similar effort taking place throughout the country. A section of a school library media collection is identified each month during the school year (September through May) as a weeding target. For more information, including guidelines for weeding this area, suggested titles to examine, and possible titles to consider for purchase, go to http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/ .The current topic, as well as the archives of previous Weed of the Month topics for the past three years may be found at the same location by scrolling down the menu bar on the left side of the screen. -- Carol McWilliams mcwillia_c@popmail.firn.edu Assistant director, SUNLINK University of Central Florida Orlando, FL =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
