Our administration has asked the media specialists to look at charging fines for damaged books, instead of charging to replace the book. For example, one book has dog bit marks on all four corners of both front and back covers. They feel the damage is not sufficient to charge for a new book. I explained to the administrator, that if they do not wish for me to charge the full amount I won't, but the book won't be back on the shelf ever again. I do not want to establish a standard that gives children and parents the impression that it is okay to have your animals chew and drool on the book, and then let someone else have it. Okay, off my soap box. I would appreciate any fee schedule or fines that you have established, such as a dollar for a torn page etc... Thanks for any help you can give!
