Speech synthesisers for visually impaired students

I tried to send this to your address but I must have got it wrong as
it bounced back - so apologies for sending it to the whole list:

I'm the librarian at the RNIB New College in Worcester UK where
our students are all visually impaired. We use a system called
Supernova from Dolphin UK - here is their website link:

Their just-about-to-be released version 5 is able to magnify the
screen as well as be a screen reader. It's supposed to be able to
navigate the Internet as well - our students have struggled with it a
bit but the more ICT minded ones have got on ok.

There is another system called JAWS which some of our students
swear by - they have got it on their personal PCs. I don't know as
much about it but I think the new Supernova is probably just as

By the way, I think a single user licence for Supernova costs about
=A3500 - but I'm not 100% sure as ours are all networked.
