Re: Notation in book UK explnantion?

I have also noticed this in a book recently purchased here, but published in
the UK :
  "[author's name] has asserted the moral right to be identified as the
author of this work."

Can someone from the UK explain the significance of this statement?  This
work also has a regular copyright notice.

Any book you have not read is a new book ;-)
