ELEM: Lemony Snicket

A parent at my k-5 school asked me if we had any of the books by Lemony
Snicket, and said her child loves them. I  just read the first volume and I
hate it! It seems to me that the entire story is totally miserable and
unpleasant. If you have them in your media center, could you give me some
idea who likes them and why? Thanks in advance.
