Hello I have been hired to set up the library at a SMALL high school in Utah. (Shelving books using the Library of Congress system, stamping them, and entering them into the computer. Also possibly setting up a computerized check-out system) I am not a librarian and have no library experience except for using the library as a student. A librarian friend of my aunt suggested that I utilize this listserv, and I hope that my questions aren't inappropriate. Right now, I have 2 big questions: 1. How do I physically organize the books on the shelves and label the locations, or where should I look to find out how? (I am assuming that, with LC you just start with call numbers starting with A... and work your way through to Z... is this wrong?) 2. For a small school library with a small budget, what is the best program/method to use for cataloging the books on the computer? I graduated this spring with a BS in Math & Computer Science, so please don't be afraid of giving me answers that might seem "too technical." They won't scare me :) Thanks in advance, Karisa Hayward, pseudo-Librarian Shiloah Valley Schools, Utah Daisy@goducks.com _____________________________________________________________ Get email for your site ---> http://www.everyone.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
