I guess it depends on what noise is--sorry I couldn't resist! Seriously, I think what others have said about the level of noise is true. There is a difference between students learning and student/ teachers just wasting time and it shows in the noise. When we had open lunch hours two years ago, it was like a party in the media center because there was no learning only visiting. They had other places to go to do that. I tell the kids that others have the right to be able to study and they need to respect that right. If it gets too enthusiastic I will ask them to keep it down to a low roar or tell them that I can hear everything that they are saying and did they really want me to listen to their conversation.
