I am on the language arts curriculum committee in my district. We would like to include a list of leveled words that the students are required to know at the end of 1st grade, 2nd grade, and so on. I have found such a list in the book The Reading Teacher's Book of Lists. I seem to recall that while they would hold a coplyright on their presentation of the list, they don't have a copyright of these words in a list. In other words, if I retype the words would I still be infringing copyright? Please help. I have tried looking up this information and I have two phone calls into librarians that I know could help, unfortunately they are out of their libraries due to other programs.
