job opening for a FT media generalist.  School population about 375
students.  2 full time media assistants.  The district also has a technolog=

           Media Generalist - Job Description

1. QUALIFICATIONS:=20

A. Candidate must be certified, or eligible to be certified as a Media
Generalist in New Hampshire.
B. Masters in Library Science preferred but not required.

2. COMPUTER EXPERTISE REQUIRED:
The Moultonborough School District has an extensive technology
infrastructure with approximately 350 stations in the District. There are
approximately 40 on-line
computer stations located within each of our two Media Centers. The
Library/Media Generalist must be experienced in computer operations, on-lin=
e
catalogues and
Internet research in a network environment.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Library/Media Generalist is responsible for helping students develop th=
e
skills, attitude, and knowledge to become effective self-directed learners
as adults. In
addition, the librarian is responsible for maintaining effective
communication with teachers in order to provide supplemental materials and
services to support and enrich
the curriculum. He/she operates and supervises the Library Media Center and
computer labs located in and/or adjacent to the Library Media Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADMINISTRATIVE=20

1. Works cooperatively with the other Library/Media Generalist in the
District to assure a cohesive K-12 Media program.
2. Operates and supervises the Library Media Center and Computer Lab within
the Media Center.=20
3. Prepares and administers the Library Media Center Budget.
4. Evaluates, selects and orders new instructional materials and software
applications for the Library Media Center.
5. Provides reference service.
6. Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all print
and non- print materials.
7. Maintains an efficient system for circulation, retrieval, and storage of
both hardware and software.
8. Trains and supervises all Library Media staff and volunteers in the
performance of their duties.
9. Arranges for inter-library loan of materials for both teachers and
students.=20
10. Schedules the use of the Media Center for maximum accessibility to
materials, equipment, computers and services.
11. Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
12. Coordinates the services of the school and public libraries.
13. Maintains accurate records of the Library Media Center=EDs holdings and
determines statistics needed.
14. Creates an appropriate climate in the Library Media Center that reflect=
s
the philosophy of the school:

    a. Defines explicitly the limits of expected behavior
    b. Enforces established behavior and discipline policies in a consisten=
t
manner.=20
    c. Works to develop within each student a sense of self-discipline.
    =20

TEACHING=20

1. Provides orientation programs.
2. Provides formal instruction in the use of the Library Media Center as
part of planned curricular assignments.
3. Provides individual instruction on the use of the Library Media Center.
4. Provides book talks for stimulation and motivation in reading.
5. Provides in-service training program for faculty and promotes the use of
the professional collection.
6. Provides instruction to assist in the creation of staff, class and
student web pages.=20

CONSULTING=20

1. Works cooperatively with teachers on the selection of new instructional
materials.=20
2. Works with individual teachers in planning the use of the Library Media
Center facilities and services.
3. Provides consultation to teaching teams, department chairs, and grade
level groups.=20
4. Contributes to overall curriculum planning in the school through
participation on curriculum planning committees.
5. Provides consultation to individual teachers regarding selection and use
of materials and equipment to carry out teaching objectives.
6. Provides consultation on the production of instructional materials.

PUBLIC RELATIONS=20

1. Keeps principal, staff, and parents informed of Library Media Center
program goals and objectives.
2. Provides programs and presentations which publicize special events,
materials, services, etc.
3. Supervises the arrangement of displays and exhibits likely to interest
Library Media Center users.
4. Assists the school administration in interpreting the school program and
its objectives to the community.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Participates actively in educational media organizations, and attends
meetings of other educational and professional groups.
