Its really your call. Remember, cataloging is simply a way of making the collection available to patrons. If your patrons are likely to look under Napoleon instead of Bonapart, then file under Napoleon; but be consistant....do it that way for all biographies of him. The convention in AACR II is to go with the throne name, so its Henry IV, not Henry Lancaster (thus 921 Henry, not 921 Lancaster) >2. Same question, but about Leif Erickson (Eriksson?). Leif the Lucky didn't have a family name as such...he was Leif, Erik's son. Over time, Erik's son morphed into a family name of Eriksson, which became Erikson or Ericson. Since he is almost always referred to as Leif Eriksson, and since the Scandinavian peoples now universally use family names, I'd go with 921 ERI. > Listed as 921 Lei >or 921 ERI? I lean toward 921 ERI, but other sources seem to indicate it's >921 LEI As a small side note, in the 921's I spell out the full name (921 ERIKSSON, 921 CLINTON, 921 JEFFERSON) of the subject as an aide to patrons, though it makes for some long labels. How do others handle the 921's?
