"Genre" is defined as "a kind, sort, type; said of works of art, literature, etc." Webster's Collegiate's 2nd definition is "a distinctive type or sort of literature." IMO, science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, historical fiction (drama, poetry), satire are all distinctive types or sorts of literature. Short stories, drama, poetry, biography, & novels, which have more to do with the 'form' of literature, can also be of different kinds and sorts. Poetry, for example, can include limericks, sonnets, epics, lyrical works, etc. Aleene Nielson Retired LMS, Tchr., Prof. Tucson, AZ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
