Re: Teen Read Week and comic books

I have also been tracking down age appropriate graphic novels for our middle
school since the spring when I noticed what the theme would be.  I looked
through many of the resources found on the ALA Teen Read Week site for this
year . . .

I found some leads, but I also was discouraged when I found some recommended
graphic novels with very adult themes and graphics (several teachers and I
decided they were too adult for 6th through 8th graders).  I searched some
more and found a couple other resources in School Library Journal.

1.  School Library Journal (Jan. 1997)

2.  School Library Journal (Aug. 2002)***  This one I really found useful.
It lists the 30 graphic novel titles recommended for middle and high school.

I have just sent off a couple orders, and I'm excited!  I believe this will
be a real "attention grabber" for our students!  INGRAM, a book vendor,
actually publishes a "Graphic Novels" catalog.  I have asked them to mail me
a copy.  In order to view their materials online, you must "apply."  It
takes a few days, so I just called for information.
