Dear Mary Ann
I would not be writing > I apologize for the poor selection <

I would be stating that it is impossible and impractical for you to read all the
books before they
go on the shelves and you rely on reviews for guiding your selections. However you
have a duty to
cater for all tastes and abilities and that if an issue does arise, then the
Challenged Materials
Policy is in place to deal with it. It goes against everything we learn in Library
School to censor
according to our own taste, and that applies to principals as well.

Take the initiative and explain how you select your titles, include your collection
development
documents for his information, let him know how many items you have to process and
the procedures
involved - turn it into an opportunity for advocacy!
