Please bear with me, this is my first time trying this. Our library
assistants need your input if you do not mind.
I would like to know what did your state/country require you to
complete to become a certified librarian? How long have you been
a librarian? Has your role changed over the years? Have you
gained respect as a teacher, instructor, administrator, facilitator?
What is the difference between your role as a librarian and the role
of a library assistant? If you have a library assistant how is that
person classified? If your roles are similiar what would it take for
that person to be certified? What is the salary range of your library
assistants?
Why am I asking these questions? There are hundredths of library
assistants and very few of them are classified the same, or have
the same responsibilities. We are grouped with secretaries,
clerks, teacher assistants, actually, under any category to deem us
as non-existing staff members. We would like to know how those
who work with us view us. We want your support in classifying us
as a vital part of the Library Media Center Program.
If there is a shortage of Library Media Specialist could we step into
the role of a Library Media Specialist? Would we have to go back
10 to 15 years and undo all the knowledge we have gained, as
assistants, to be certified?
