As our AP History students come in to do research on their first semester papers (up through 1899), I have gotten a closer look at our history section and have noticed major gaps. We seem to have tons of material on colonial life, the Revolutionary War period and then practically nothing till the Civil War period, with the exception of the War of 1812. Can anyone recommend books that you have found useful: a) particular titles or a series of non-reference books which covers this time period (early 1800s to 1865) b)reference books covering this time frame and/or c)a publisher which publishes books for this time frame in US history Thanks!
