At the risk of sounding (and being) naive, I have a question about videos. I
have always heard that videos not owned by the school cannot legally be shown
to students. I am sure my school system is not the only one where teachers
break the rules by bringing in their own videos and showing them to their
classes. I understand that this is against school policy because these
videos have not been approved. But, isn't it legal to show these videos in a
classroom where the teacher is face to the face with the students and it is
curriculum related (somewhat)? That is certainly not a public performance,
but an educational use. I always warn the teachers at my school that this is
illegal. But is it.....? and why.

thanks for your input.
