I have a Gr 5/6 teacher who is looking for
books on slavery for a research project he has
embarked upon. While i realize that it will be too
late this year to get him any books, I also realized
that we basically have nothing on this in our library.
I guess it is because we are a Canadian school and
that this has not been a large part of our British
Columbia history. At least not from an African
American point of view.
    My questions are this....
    1) Are there any must have books, suitable for
research, written in a form that is easily
understandable about slavery and the fight fro
emancipation in the States?
    2) Are there any must have books dealing with the
chinese immigrants that were treated almost like
slaves in BC?
    3) Are there any must have books that deal with
First Nations peoples and the capture of other First
Nations peoples etc. used for slaves?

As usual, I am greatly indepted to all who respond.
We have had a lot of turmoil with our provincial
government here of late and I do not know how many
T-L's there will be in the furture in BC, but I look
at you all and know that this has to be one of the
greatest jobs with a super support network.
            TIA for the suggestions.
                     Elizabeth
