"It breaks my heart to see her sit there week after week not being allowed = to check anything out." Surely there are other stategies for dealing with this situation. Perhaps = the teacher could check out the child's choice and keep it in the = classroom in a special spot.=20 I have a fall back replacement book list. They are high use areas of the = collections where the books fall apart after about a year. I ask the = parent to replace lost books with a Dorling Kindersley dinosaur book. I = don't have to cover them or make a new record. They are readily available = at any bookstore and cost around $16. Sometimes we just have to accept the loss. I would prefer that a child's = memory of the library experience is not only a punitive one.
