To my esteemed colleagues:

You know Robert, the more we let people know we can do...the more we have to
do. I don't repair
equipment...I change bulbs...that is it. I don't clean overheads...we have
a contract for all the equipment
repair and cleaning with our BOCES. I don't do anything more with the
computer than check the basics
and say "did you reboot it?" (which 99% of the time works). And I call
computer services or send a
Groupwise message. I do a little more with mine than that but I don't have
to tell anyone do I?

In PA, there are three different jobs, Librarian, Media Specialist (deals
with equipment) and Computer
Technician...I am in NY where at least the first two are combined in the
teaching certificate...and the job of
teaching information literacy goes with that.

I guess...after over twenty years of being in this field and not getting
extra clerical help despite all the other
things that I do for the school and the district...I have learned being
Super Librarian doesn't really get you
anywhere...and people expect more of you than you can possibly give to the
job.

I have prioritized my duties to:

#1 - the kids - anything that makes it better for them - main things being a
cheerful librarian and good
books.

#2 - everything else.

and since the birth of my son - he takes precedence over perfect attendance
and any of the other things.
