PR That's what comes to mind. I never make a teacher pay for a lost book that they checked out for their classroom. Nobody's ever abused that trust. They will even come in with checkbook in hand and ask how much they owe. I explain to them that I believe that the book was probably put away with the other materials for that unit and they will find it next year. Which happens more times than not. I don't have to pay for the books that are missing from the library and never want anybody to suggest that since they were in my care and they disappeared I should have to pay for them. If a book's been checked out for their own pleasure, they then fall under the same rules as the other patrons and none of them have a problem with that.
