people who overcame obstacles - need list today (of course)

Dear LM_netters,

This assignment came up last year... A teacher wanted her students to
do a report on anyone who overcame a disability.  Of course, it was a
real scramble and headache because the students weren't given a list
of people.  I looked on the archives and found the following people:

Helen Keller
Bill Cosby
Annie Sullivan

To that, I can add Stephen Hawking and James Earl Jones.... can anyone
add to this list?  Thank you, thank you in advance!
