I'm getting lots of really good suggestions, but just to clarify, the
reason my mentor teacher chose "Holes" for such a young audience is
because she wants them to hear quality literature read aloud. Her next
choice for the read-aloud is "Where the Red Fern Grows," which I think
would be even more over their heads.

So I'm not really looking for something like the Robert Munsch books or
Junie B. Jones -- I want something complex, but still engaging. "Danny
the Champion of the World" by Roald Dahl is a possibility.

Keep 'em coming! I'll post a HIT.
