GEN: Author Monica Hughes

I just received an e-mail from a French teacher friend of mine (middle
school) who asked me about the author Monica Hughes (who is, I understand,
Canadian?).   She just read "the Story Box" in translation and really liked
it.

She wanted to know if she was a popular children's author, and if her books
are read in schools, etc.  I am unfamiliar with the author, so am asking
middle school librarians out there this question.
