Collaborative planning is a 2-way street, but the reality -- for most librarians -- is that WE've got to make most of the effort. That said, understand that asking a teacher to fill out yet one more piece of paper is not necessarily the best strategy. I find I'm much more successful when I go TO the teacher (at a mutually low-stress (ha!) time) with some possibilities in hand for topics or projects I know/suspect they will soon be covering. This kind of approach tells the teacher that: 1. I *already* have some knowledge of what they're doing in class. 2. I've *already* thought about ways to help / work with them. 3. I understand some of the constraints that *they* are working under. Remember that you cannot force anyone to collaborate. What you want to do is make them WANT to work with you, because they can see the benefits that THEY -- and their students -- will gain from this kind of teamwork.
