CALL FOR ESSAYS
Digital Opportunity Channel
www.digitalopportunity.org

Digital Opportunity Channel (www.digitalopportunity.org) is currently
seeking submissions for publication on its new Web site. Coordinated by the
Benton Foundation and OneWorld South Asia, the channel addresses the use of
information and communications technologies (ICTs) for global development,
as well as initiatives around the world bridging the digital divide.

The channel is seeking essays written by activists, practictioners,
policymakers, educators, local leaders and others involved in ICT and
digital divide efforts around the world. While the coverage of the Web site
is global, we are particularly interested in essays addressing challenges
and opportunities for strategic ICT use in the developing world. Essay
length can range from 800 to 1500 words, depending on the nature of the
topic. Lengthier essays may be serialized for easier online readibility.

Among the types of articles that would be of interest to the channel:

Success stories - examples of success initiatives, how they were implemented
and what made them successful

Analysis - in-depth review of ICT policies and activities

Research - coverage of current research, written for a general audience

Opinion - editorial pieces offering a personal point of view

Specific topics might include (but are not limited to):

-Local, national or international ICT initiatives
        -Application of emerging technologies
-Balancing ICT activities with other development efforts
        -Literacy, education and skills acquisition
-Profiles of leaders in the field
        -ICTs and communications policy
-Making ICTs accessible to all people
        -Development of culturally relevant content
        -Making initiatives economically sustainable
        -Private/public partnerships and other collaborations

All interested parties are welcome to contact channel co-editor Andy Carvin,
either submitting topic ideas or completed essays if available.

For more information, please contact Andy at acarvin@benton.org.

thanks,
ac
