So many of you wrote when I inquired about involving my whole K-5 school in
moving the library to a new media center on campus. I wanted to let you know
what a tremendous success it was. On June 4 we moved all 9,000 books, the
computers, and all of the contents of my desk and the cupboards to the new
building in 6 hours. Every student, teacher, and staff member participated as
well as a few parent volunteers. It was amazing. I heard not one complaint
and many many compliments during the day from all who were involved. The
children clearly feel an ownership of the new building and virtually all now
understand when I say how important it is to keep books in order and to
shelve them spine out! My principal was ecstatic throughout the entire event.
I'd be happy to share details with anyone interested and I highly recommend
this method of moving from one building to another. Thanks so much to all who
sent messages of support.
