Deuker, Carl._On the devil's court._Avon, 1988 [0-380-70879-5] Joe loves playing basketball and finds a deserted building with a gym in it so he can practice. One day he says he would give his soul to play the season of his life. Suddenly his game improves. He is the star player.... he team is undefeated. But his father has a heart attack and is getting sicker. His class is reading Faust in school and he wonders if what he said meant he sold his soul to the devil and is he trading his father's life for a good season of basketball. This 252 page book is a great basketball story with the under-riding theme of selling your soul to the devil. It is never clear from the book whether Joe imagines what he does or what. *************** Frederick Muller Halsted Middle School Library 59 Halsted Street Newton, NJ 07860 voice (973) 383-7440 ext 228 FAX (973) 383-7432 My book reviews are compiled at: http://www.halsted.org/br.htm My personal web site is: http://users.tellurian.net/fmuller =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
