Our high school will be going to a modified block schedule next year. Study halls will then be 90 minutes on block days. Our study halls allow no talking, etc. We are in a 2 week trial right now, and have asked the study hall teachers (there are 4-6 teachers assigned to monitor 40-100 students in the cafeteria) to split the students for the library with half coming for about 40 minutes and then a different group for the second half. The study hall teachers don't want to do this as it is extra work for them. I think 90 minutes is a long time for a kid to sit silently in study hall or to be in the library. Do any of you have a similar situation? What works well?
