TARGET: Characteristics of a hero

Hello colleagues,

Like everything else, I know someone out there has the answer I am
looking for.  I need a book or a list of characteristics of a hero.
What makes a hero?  Personality traits or such?

I know I have seen this somewhere and I know it depends on a point of
view, but there must be some basis?  I have a teacher that assigned
famous "heroes" and students need to identify why they shouldn't be
heroes or why they are.  (i.e. Harriet Tubman)  He is really making them
think!
