There is nothing that can be said on this anniversary, but I wanted to tell you that there is a group of NY firefighters and police officers having a short respite in Sydney from Ground Zero as guests of the New South Wales government and these folk have generated such a huge amount of respect in the few days they have been here. It is but a few weeks since those who saved so much for so many in the Christmas-New Year bushfires had a ticker-tape parade so we could say thank you to them, so the role of the firefighter in our lives is well appreciated. But tonight, as we watched them climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge to look out over the city, much like many of them had probably done at the top of the WTC, the reality was revisited. But what really got to me was that instead of going to the Hunter Valley to visit the vineyards and wineries as was planned, they have chosen to visit the children in the Burns Centre of our largest children's hospital. How special is that! They, who have suffered so much, can still give.
