Dear LM netters,
I would think 'in what context does the school have email' and why is it
that your computer tech wants teachers to use it.
In Australia now, pretty well every school has email which is used by the
government even to send email to principals of schools. All memos also get
sent out, which principals pass on to the staff.

Staff also email each other when they can't catch up with them and parents
and students can email staff because pretty well every school has a web site
with those contact details.

Under those circumstances email becomes a daily activity. We also have our
listservs to look at and respond to.
So, not being familiar with the American system, are schools as wired up as
they here? I get the impression they are not.
Are the staff trained in the use of email?
Is there a reason for using it?
Is there professional development in IT.
Please excuse me if this sounds naive, but I have been a subscriber to LMNET
for a while and schools do seem to be to be less technologically advanced or
rather not using technology in learning as much.
Is this the case?

Do you guys have any creative suggestions as for getting teachers to use
email? Our computer tech has tried a couple contests such as creating
stories
and forwarding materials to her, but only a few teachers have participated
and
she's getting quite frustrated. I told her I'd ask you guys and see what
wonderful suggestions you'd have.

Thanks in advance.
