I have been following this thread and I am beginning to question my copyright knowledge. It was my impression that book jackets were copyrighted and covered by the law in that no copies may be made without permission from the author/illustrator. The pictures are copyrighted and not even under the fair use doctrine, in my opinion, can we get away with making copies of these originals for PERMANENT display purposes without first obtaining permission. I know that under fair use, you could make enough copies of it for a class, to be used in face to face instruction, in worksheets, or whatever, but if you decide to make this a permanent part of your curriculum, you must ask. I don't think I am wrong about this, so please enlighten me if you have proof that this is legal. I am guilty of this sin myself, having scanned a few jackets before realizing it was a no-no.
